Picnic Spring 2003

All Xavier Mathematics and Computer Science students, faculty, staff , friends, alumni, and families are welcome to attend. This year's picnic is at Sharon Woods Park, on Thursday, May 8, from 1:00 pm until dark. If you need a ride or can give a ride, sign up on the bulletin board outside of Hinkle 133, call Liz Johnson at 745-3667 or email at johnsone@xavier.edu.

Volleyball, bocce, frisbee, eating, etc. will start at 1 and continue throughout the afternoon and early evening. The picnic will be the site of a challenge softball game, starting at 3:00 pm. This year, the 1st and 4th year students will play a team of 2nd and 3rd year students. Non-students will be divided evenly between the teams.

Directions from Xavier University Drive

  1. Get to North 75. Here's one way:
       - Turn right onto Victory Parkway from University Drive.
       - After 1 mile, turn right on Reading Road
       - After .7 miles, on left, get onto Norwood Lateral (562)
          going West towards 75.
       - After .8 miles, get onto I-75 North going towards Dayton.

  2. After approx. 9 miles, take exit 16, I-275. Get on I-275 East, going towards Columbus/I-71.

  3. After 2 miles, take exit 46, Mason/Sharonville. Turn right onto Lebanon Rd.

  4. Within 1 mile, you'll cross Kemper Road. There's a Truck Rental/Box company on the right at that intersection. Shortly, a split-rail fence begins on the left. There's a road in the middle of that fence, marked by stone posts which say "Sharon Woods." Turn left here.

If you get to Reading Road before turning left, you've gone too far.

  5. Almost immediately you'll come to the guard kiosk. You'll need to buy a pass for the park here ($1 for the day or $3 for the year per car).

  6. Continue straight from the kiosk. You'll cross a creek.

  7. After less than .3 miles, you'll see a road on the right for the reservable shelters. Don't take it! You want the next right because we're in the second set of shelters this year. So turn right at the road with signs for Council Bluff and Honeysuckle Hill.

  8. Continue on the road passing the Honeysuckle Hill shelter. Council Bluff is on the right.
