The first meeting: A time to meet and greet the members of your new community! There will be a reception September 3rd, 1:30 - 3:30 pm in the Conaton Board Room to welcome students to campus and to the program. Students will attend this reception with their peer mentor. You will meet the Dean of Arts and Sciences and faculty members in computer science, mathematics and physics! The undergraduate teaching assistants (UTAs) will give brief presentations in which they discuss academic support services on campus. They will also give tips for success in the first year, both academically and socially. Subsequent meetings: A time to socialize and discuss career options over dinner! There will be at least seven other gatherings throughout the academic year, at which dinner will be provided. Faculty members from computer science, mathematics, and physics will be at each meeting along with majors in each discipline. Career opportunities from each of the three majors will be discussed. A professional in one of the areas will be invited to each event. Alumni will also be included among the speakers. We have alumni who have attended graduate school for Ph.D.s and we also have alumni who have gone into industry. They are happy to talk about their experiences and how Xavier helped them prepare for their current career! |
